Don’t worry too much! All our East Asian People need to do is to concentrate more on our East Asian Economics and an East Asian Union with DEMOCRACY in the future!

When we thought of black people in the US, we rarely linked them to Malawi, Sudan or Chad; but rather to shabby Brooklyn slums and people with baggy pants. And I do agree to your comment that East Asians are underrepresented in the US, even comparing to black and other visible minorities, but there is an underlying factor, because East Asians have a home theater: East Asia, that’s roughly on par to Euro-America, and therefore they are generally considered alien.

BTW, shouldn’t YOU be comparing Okinawa along with the entire Japan? After all, Okinawa is under the control of Japan! They did went through the process of taking Japanese Last Name!
I doubt Okinawans want to join another Chinese Group that are really no different than the Japanese and American Groups!!
First off, indigenous populations account for less than 10 percent of Taiwan’s population, not so in Okinawa. Secondly, there are still indigenous people retaining and practising their own culture, having their names. So there is a BIG DIFFERENCE.

Okinawan royals were exiled to China after Japan ousted them in an invasion shortly after Meiji Restoration.
And the referendum of Okinawan independence narrowly failed in the 1950s when US transferred the islands back to Japanese control.

Okinawa is a lot like Hawaii in America!!
Hawaiian have their own KING, but America went over there and killed their KING for their territory with American Colonization!
Most Okinawans would not consider themselves to be Japanese! They do not like USA Military BASE there either! I doubt they want to be Chinese or Taiwanese!
Perhaps, one day, Okinawa can be like Monaco (Monte Carlo) in between French and Italy in the future except Okinawa would be in between Taiwan and Japan!

The only reason that Eastern Films (not made in TRADITIONAL Hollywood) such as these got into America MEDIA is because of the Screen Actors Guild STRIKE in 2000! There is another one recently as well!
Hollywood was in short supply of Films to put out for the Summer! One of the first East Asian Films to be put up is CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON by Ang Lee!
Then, HERO by Zhang Yimou was brought over! Of course, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS also by Zhang Yimou is his answer to C.T.H.D.!!
