First time planting a garden-basic questions?
Posted by greenthumb in Gardening QuestionsI’m finally planting my first garden! Something i’ve wanted to do for years now but didn’t have the yard for. Now i’m realizing i’m a bit clueless on it. For example I don’t know any of the basics. I’ve seen people with coffee containers in their gardens…why? What are some basic things I need to know? I live in Iowa, to give you an idea of the temperatures here, it’s just now reaching 80 and that’s still pretty spuratic.
I really appreciate any help!
ok so we’re planting tomatos, onions, sweet corn, beans, bell peppers. & strawberries. Do the strawberries have to be in a seperate area?

i think the easiest solution is to make a sketch of your garden to be and mark hot sunny spots, wet spots, shady spots, spots where there are pine trees (they change the soil acidity). take your sketch to your local garden centre and ask them what plants would strive where best. they will most likely be happy to assist you with your questions.
tell them you are a beginner so they might suggest hardy plants that will grow well without much extra knowledge.
You must give us some idea of what you want to grow…….vegetables or flowers, otherwise we can`t advise you.
All plants require widely differing positions and treatment.
